Mexico work visa requirements and information

Step 1: Prepare your documents:

There is two type of visa: NUT holder and without NUT holder.

NUT Holder:

  1. Original valid passport and a clear photocopy of the first and last page (vertical).
  2. Proof of legal stay  (Visa copy and entry stamp, work permits, residency card) in case the applicant holds another nationality.
  3. Application form duly filled (printed in one page, double sided).
  4. Copy of the authorization from the National Immigration Institute (INAMI).
  5. Original cover letter given by your employer indicating the purpose, estimated date of departure and the length of the trip (Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the person signing the letter)
  6. Original and copy of job offer letter/employment letter from the Mexican employer, with the following information:
    • Printted in letter head paper.
    • Job position offered
    • Length of job contract
    • Job place
    • Monthly salary amount in Mexican Pesos.
    • Copy of the government issued ID of the signatory
  7. One recent passport-sized photograph (4.5 CM X 3.5 CM), white background, without glasses. Face should cover 80%
  8. Visa fee ($51 US Dollars payable in local current exchange rate).

Without NUT Holder:

  1. Original valid passport and a clear photocopy of the first and last page (vertical).
  2. Proof of legal stay  (Visa copy and entry stamp, work permits, residency card) in case the applicant holds another nationality.
  3. Application form duly filled (printed in one page, double sided).
  4. Copy of the authorization from the National Immigration Institute (INAMI).
  5. One recent passport-sized photograph (4.5 CM X 3.5 CM), white background, without glasses. Face should cover 80%.
  6. Original cover letter given by your employer indicating the purpose and the length of the trip. (Please include a copy of the passport or PAN card of the person signing the letter)
  7. Invitation letter/employment letter from the Mexican employer. (Copy of the government issued ID of the signatory)
  8. Visa fee $51.00 (If the permission to perform remunerative activities is granted $295.00 US Dollars are payable in local current exchange rate).

Step 2: Book an appointment through Citas:

ALL appointments must be booked ONLY through citas website.

  • The Embassy does NOT book/grant appointments.
  • Once you booked your appointment, this Consular Section cannot change it, cancel it, reschedule it, or modify it in any way.

Step 3: Pay visa application fee:

All visa applications submitted to the Embassy of Mexico will cost $53.00 USD payable in current exchange rate.

  • Be sure to pay exact amount ONLY. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee that the visa application will be approved.
  • DO NOT PAY visa fee before securing an appointment. Visa fee must be paid prior to the submission of the documents and after scheduling an appointment.

Step 4: Attend your appointment:

  • Bring all your documents and payment receipt. 
  • Appointment letter you must carry with you the day of your appointment.
  • On that date, we will take a photograph and fingerprints, and an interview will be conducted as to confirm the purpose of the trip.
  • All the documents should be in one folder.
  • Bring all the required stationary with you (pencil, pen, glue stick etc.)
  • Be informed that if any document is missing or you are unable to provide it at the time of document submission, you will have to take a new appointment using the Citas site.
  • To avoid inconvenience, please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time.

Step 5: Collect your passport:

If your application is approved, 

  • You have to collect your passport in person or it can also be collected by another individual with an original letter of authorization and ID copy of the authorized person.
  • Collection timings are Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 15:30. Please plan accordingly.
